Beware of job scams

This week we experienced scammers posing as our recruiters on Facebook, claiming to offer fraudulent employment opportunities in return for money, cryptocurrency or personal information.

We are disgusted by this fraudulent behaviour and we want to encourage everyone to stay safe online.

Here’s how you can spot a job or employment scam:

  • You come across a job advertisement, receive a SMS or WhatsApp message offering you a guaranteed income or job or requesting you give money or cryptocurrency to unlock job opportunities. MBC group recruiters will never ask you to give money or cryptocurrency as part of recruitment. Should one of our recruiters contact you using Facebook messenger, SMS or WhatsApp, they will also give you their email address, showing an MBC recruitment domain name, for example [email protected], and their mobile phone number. You should check the authenticity of these details by emailing or phoning our recruiter.
  • The post or message may claim lots of money can be made with little effort using your personal computer, or guarantee large returns.
  • The post or message asks you to provide personal details or a fee for more information about the job or as part of the onboarding process. MBC group recruiters will never ask you for money for your personal details.

If you suspect you have been targeted by a recruitment scam, please contact the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission Scamwatch team via the website here or email [email protected].
