It was an interesting and worthwhile couple of days at the Local Government Procurement Conference in Sydney last week.
As an approved provider of recruitment services to LGP participating Councils, it was beneficial for MBC to have a representative attend what is LGP’s major yearly event.
There would have been about 30 stands from a range of LGP suppliers with only one recruitment company, Public Sector People, who are purely white-collar recruiters in the local government space.
Approximately 150 people were in attendance at any given time, council attendees were primarily procurement personnel from across NSW. I also managed to catch up with representatives from a range of councils including Tweed Heads, Kempsey and Riverina.
There were a few suppliers who attended the conference in the same capacity as me, and although I found the sessions informative, some of them were aimed specifically at procurement.
Going forward, I think the best opportunity for suppliers is to have a stand as this means they have the chance to be introduced to council attendees by the LGP representatives and meet all council attendees.
